Ballot Question 1

THIS PASSED on June 8.

"Do you want to reject the new law that lowers Maine's income tax and replaces that revenue by making changes to the sales tax?"

This question sought to repeal PL 2009, c. 382 "An Act To Implement Tax Relief and Tax Reform".
The "YES" vote means that things will stay as they are, with an income tax rate of 8.5%.
A "NO" vote would have implemented the new law, which among other changes, would have reduced the income tax rate to 6.5%. The new law would have made up for the lowered income tax by applying the sales tax more broadly. It also provided a cash credit to low-income Mainers to offset the sales tax increase.

Gubernatorial Race
